Community working together?

In an earlier post I bemoaned the rough shod way Wigan MBC moved onto a quiet peaceful piece of green land and turned it into a muddy field devoid of the trees that were at it's heart. Turns out that the people organising the redevelopment of this land did not know that the 'demolision work' was going on! The range of reasons given for felling these trees were... 'they were diseased' ... 'they weren't the prettiest of trees' ... 'one was in the way of a planned path' ... 'some were in the way of others' ... 'a weeping willow was shedding it's leaves' and to top the list off, apparantly 'one local resident claimed the trees were a nuisance!'

The proposed redevelopment of this land does not yet have any finalised plans, nor has it yet secured any funding for any forthcoming proposals. Obviously residents who are very annoyed and upset by events see the free felling as land clearance to make it ready for redevelopment. 'No' say the tree fellers, 'it's just routine maintenance'. If this is the case it will have been the first 'routine maintenance' in around 25 years.

Now, I am left wondering, were the trees removed for...preperation for redevelopment for which there is no money OR was it because the trees weren't very pretty OR was it because they were diseased OR was it because they were in each others way OR was it because they shed their leaves each year OR was it because in one unknown person's view they were a nuicance OR was it routine maintenance OR was there some mysterious inter-planetery alignment that took place which brought ALL of these reasons together at one moment in time, the moment that redevelopment of the land was being discussed but prior to any real detail being put before residents?

The other side of the penny has also been shown by the MBC by their announced intentions to plant an avenue of 'small leaved lime trees' just up the street along one side of the Central Park. Credit where it's due, well done Wigan MBC.
